"It is." Tristan agreed taking his eyes off Veronica and staring into space, thinking. "Odd."
Whatever the reason is for Tristan and Veruca's travel to Arizona should only be between them. That's what they both agreed at back in the car. Veruca ofcourse kept asking him why they need to be so secretive about it, but he managed to convince her to just trust him and do what he says. The urgency and seriousness in his voice probably helped as well.
"You're probably lawyers or real estate agents?"

"Dear God no.", Veronica replied. "What gives you that impression?".

Tristan chuckled softly, slightly covering his mouth with his hand.
"I'm sorry. It must be the suit and everything." He told her gesturing his hand over her clothes. "You look like one of those hot lawyers from tv."
He chuckled again, embarrassed.

Veronica chuckled and said, "Well thank you. I am going to take that as a compliment.". Veronica paused herself for a moment and continued. "No. Actually, I really have no idea what we're doing heading down there. Really doesn't seem like we have anywhere else to go.".
Again, Veronica didn't know what she was doing opening herself up like that. It seemed she did that to many strangers that came her way.

Tristan wrinkled his forehead at that revelation. He was always good making people comfortable to open up. Maybe the wholesome-harmless-good-guy vibe does the trick.
"What do you mean?" He queried pressing his lips together. "Are you guys in some sort of trouble?"

"My father's house was burned down earlier this week and here I am.". Veronica paused herself from saying too much. Veronica took a look outside the window before turning back to Tristan and asked, "Have you ever looked out the window and asked yourself if there was something else out there? Something else beyond our realm of perceived reality?".

His face turned serious suddenly upon hearing the bad news from Veronica. He noticed the change in her tone and her expression as well. Something was bothering her.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Tristan said, matching Veronica's tone.
Then she asked him about his view about his beliefs.
"I don't have to look out the window to think that." He responded quietly. "But it crossed my mind a lot, especially since I grew up raised by my 'eccentric' parents."
He broke in a boyish but sweet chuckle again. His lips parted, showing off rows of perfectly white teeth, and his beautiful eyes arched with his eyebrows pleasantly.
"I believe there are things out there that exist, beyond logic or comprehension. Not even the top scientists nor the pope could explain. I believe they are out there, waiting to be discovered."
Tristan turned to Veronica, "What about you? What do you believe in?"

"I used to believe in something.", Veronica replied as she gazed back out the window again. "I used to believe there was more than what I saw. I was raised around that. Nothing solidified into dogma, really. But now, I'm think I'm starting to get it.". Veronica paused as she turned back to Tristan. "You know, understand it.".

"Veruca."
"Unusual name," Kyle noted, still smiling. "I like it."
Kyle had taken note of how coincidental all of this seemed. Three people just somehow all meeting in a random diner in Indiana, all headed for the exact same place. Kyle had always been about living in the moment, but even he had the feeling that something about this moment was off.
"So, Arizona must be popular this time of year then."

He was looking at her with his intense blue eyes, he closed them for a second then nodded, to agree with what Veronica was talking about. When he opened his eyes again, he gave her a warm smile and picked up the groceries bags on the counter with his change.
"Veruca's probably waiting for me at the lot." Tristan announced, taking a quick look outside the glass window of the store. "I'll introduce you to her and we could go find your sister or something."
Still with his thin lips pressed together he walked out of the convenient store's door first, then held it open for Veronica.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Thanks." Veruca replied to Kyle, tucking a few strands of brown hair behind her ear, smiling.
She liked him. Not just because he's incredibly good looking but he seemed sweet and charming and nice. Unlike a certain brownish blond, blue gray eyed, porsche driving snob she met recently.
Kyle said something about Arizona.
"I'm not sure." She replied, then realized, Kyle was probably asking both her and Emma. "I haven't been outside of Michigan actually. This would be my first time to travel."

"Thank you.", Veronica replied as she followed Tristan to the parking lot.
<***>
"Apparently, there's something about Arizona.", Emma said. "Why else are the three of us headed there?".
Emma gazed at the clock before them and said, "Ok, its a quarter to two.". Gazing at the map laid on the counter, Emma continued. "How about this? If we keep on driving we can reach a good part of Missouri by this time tomorrow night. We can drive straight into Indiana, get some rest once we reach Missouri, and from there, we can go through Oklahoma and New Mexico before finally settling into Arizona. We can tailgate and keep in touch trough text messages, that way we don't get lost or anything. How does that sound?".

"How does that sound?"
Kyle listened and nodded. What Emma said made sense, and he'd gained a good sense of the roads during his travels so knew the quickest routes and where to avoid.
"Sounds like a plan. Should probably check with your sister first, right?" Kyle said, before turning to Veruca. "And your... sorry, I don't think I ever caught who you were travelling with."

"A friend. Not a boyfriend, friend, just a friend." Veruca explained, smiling like a lunatic at Kyle. "Tristan, he's driving me to Arizona."
She hated herself for sounding like a complete and utter bimbo in front of the guy. He probably thinks she's half retarded, she thought to herself, biting her lower lip.
"He's probably back in his car, waiting for me."

Emma looked at Kyle and replied, "I'm sure Veronica will be perfectly fine. Our whole logic now is the sooner we get there, the better.".
Picking up the coffee, Emma turned to the door and said, "Shall we?".
Pushing the door open, Emma spotted Veronica and another man in the distance. "Veronica.", Emma called out approaching her, "We've got a guest accompanying us.".

"A friend. Not a boyfriend, friend, just a friend."
Kyle smiled at Veruca's almost babbling. He found it cute how she made a point out of it, like she almost didn't know what to say. He found it even cuter how she bit her lower lip. He'd always found that an attractive quality in girls. There was only one real thought running through his head at the knowledge that she wasn't in any way attatched to this guy.
'Awesome'
"He's probably back in his car, waiting for me."
"Probably shouldn't keep the guy waiting then, right?" Kyle said with a grin as he followed Emma towards the door, first offering his hand to Veruca to walk her out of the diner.
