"I get that," Veruca advised the elderly waitress inside a diner somewhere in Indiana, pointing at a map on the counter. "I guess what I'm trying to ask is if you think we should continue taking Interstate 65 to get to Iowa or would it be better to take 55 down to Illinois? Which one would take us to Arizona faster?"
She scratched the back of her head frustrated. The elderly waitress doesn't seem to have any idea what to tell her. She sighed glancing outside the diner's window to check on Tristan. He was nowhere in sight so she figured he's still probably inside the convenient store picking up supplies for the trip.
"Maybe going to this trip isn't such a bad idea." Tristan thought, as he pressed his forehead on the cold glass window of the beverage fridge inside the store, eyes closed. He had on his black beanie hat over his head.
Growing up, he has witnessed a lot weird things inside the Wickham residence. There's the secret midnight meeting of his father and his companions at the study. His father's emergency trips to God-know-where. His family's fascination about ancient manuscripts and artifacts. Then there are his father's collections of rather odd everyday objects. Like the Star Sapphire Ring Tristan's stole from his father's collection before he ran away.
Pulling his head back, he opened his eyes to look at the ring, perfectly fitting his right ring finger. He studied it for a while and found nothing particularly special about it. It was a silver ring, with a dark Star Sapphire stone sitting on top of it.
"What's so special about you?" Tristan mumbled to the ring.

Waiting for her coffee, Emma turned the stranger and replied, "Why, yes. Yes, I am.". Initially, Emma didn't know if she could trust him after what had happened, but she reckoned she'd give fate a chance. Looking out the window for a moment she told herself, if the next car to pass through the window was green, she'd take him on.
A green car passed.
Hmm... Best two of out three. This time a white car. Not just any white car. A White Toyota Camry.
A White Toyota Camry passed.
A Batmobile would be pushing it, wouldn't it?
Emma looked back at the stranger and asked, "What brings you to Arizona?".
"I guess what I'm trying to ask is if you think we should continue taking Interstate 65 to get to Iowa or would it be better to take 55 down to Illinois? Which one would take us to Arizona faster?"
Emma turned to the girl behind her and looked at both the girl and the stranger, saying, "I guess that makes three of us. What's with Arizona?".
<***>
Veronica took a basket and looked around the store. Aside from the coffee and the cigarettes, they were gonna need more. So she riffled through chips, assorted candies, and bottles of juice and iced tea in the basket before approaching the counter and asking the clerk, "Can I have four packs of Marlboro Lights and four packs of Winston's, a pack of American Spirit, and two lighters?".

Veruca thanked the elderly waitress anyway when she heard the man and the woman talking about heading to Arizona. She thought maybe they could her and Tristan them. Folding the map back she walked towards the counter where they strangers are, with a smile on her face.
"Excuse." She said, tucking a few strands of brown hair behind her ear. "I sorta over heard you over there."
Veruca pointed at the elderly woman's direction, then looked at the man and the woman again.
"My friend and I, we're also heading to Arizona." She advised, opening the map she was holding just a bit then showed it to the two. "Andreas de Mesa?"

Inside the convenient store, Tristan was cradling a few stuff with both his hands, as he fell in line behind a brunette woman at the cashier. He looked at what the lady bought and stared at his own items, most of them were Veruca's ofcourse.
"Traveling?" He spoke to the lady in front of him.

No more watching cars. This girl seemed harmless enough.
"Yes.", Emma replied. "I'm actually headed that way myself. Let me ask you, what brings you there?".
<***>
Veronica turned back the stranger and replied, "As a matter of fact, I am. Yourself?". She smiled at him and gazed at what he had in the basket and asked, "Not traveling alone, I suppose?".

Tristan blushed immediately, the minute he realized he had on girly stuff in the basket. Not to mention tons of beef jerky and a pack of hello kitty band aids. He wanted to pull his beanie hat over his face out of embarrassment. She was beautiful and tall. Like a super model.
"No, I'm not." He replied, with a smile, blushing. "I'm traveling with a someone ... a girl ..."
"A very irritating one." Tristan wanted to add, but controlled himself.
"That's a lot of cigarettes for just one person." He stated, raising one eyebrow, keeping his charming smile. "You're probably traveling with someone as well. Like your boyfriend or fiance?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Veruca racked her brains for a decent answer. Tristan specifically told her inside the car, not to tell anyone why they're heading to Andreas De Mesa. She doesn't really understand why, but she trusted him.
"Relatives." She lied, her eyes traveling to the ruggedly looking man next to the woman. "We're visiting relatives."

Veronica laughed as she handed the cashier her credit card. "No, I'm traveling with my sister. And yes, it is quite a lot of cigarettes, but we figure, it'll be awhile before we reach Arizona and we're avoiding stops as much as we can. " Taking her card back and placing it back into her wallet, Veronica added. "I'm recently divorced.".
Reaching for the plastic bag from the cashier, Veronica didn't know why she added that. But she figured, some flirting wasn't going to hurt.
"And look.", Veronica said. "I know what you're going through. It was like that with my ex-husband, but you get over things and you begin to really appreciate the little things. Give your girlfriend a chance.".
<***>
Emma nodded at the girl as the waitress finally arrived with their coffee in a holder. Emma took the coffee and asked, "Since you're headed that way, would you mind if we tailgated?".

Tristan face broke into surprised look, as he blushed even more. He chuckled softly shaking his head. This woman's beautiful. He couldn't believe his luck, bumping into someone like her inside some random convenient store in Indiana. To top it all, she's divorced! He was a little worried though if age matter's to her.
"She's not my girlfriend." He told her, amused, although he really can't blame her for assuming that. "She's a friend's ... friend ... and I'm just helping her get to Arizona."
He paused for a bit then offered his other hand for a handshake, "I'm Tristan by the way. And you are?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Oooh." Veruca sounded, with a pained look on her face, upon hearing the woman. "I was kinda hoping we could follow you or something. My friend, well, he's in the convenient store, he said he knows how to get there, but I'm thinking maybe we could get there faster if he get directions."

Veronica smiled as she reached for her hand and replied, "I'm Veronica, pleased to meet you.". Veronica paused and asked, "Wait, you're going to Arizona too?".
<***>
Emma took a look at the map the girl had laid out and said, "How about this? Let's travel along each other. Whatever bits of information we get along the way, we'll pass on to each other? How does that sound?".
Emma turned back to the stranger next to her and said, "You're welcome to join us. I hope you don't mind squeezing in with my sister and I?".

"Yes, actually." Tristan replied, scratching his left side burn with his finger. "Where in Arizona exactly are you heading?"
He placed the contents of the shopping basket on the counter and let the cashier take everything out. He handed her the money Veruca gave him and turned his attention back to the woman named Veronica.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"That sounds great." She said, relieved that they're finally traveling the road with some people.
Traveling inside a beautiful car, with an equally beautiful creature, Tristan, is a dream come true for Veruca. But quite honestly it gets boring, especially if your companion's quiet and the only reply you'd get from him is a "yes" or a "no." And if you're lucky, you'd get his occasional what-on-earth-are-you-talking-about glare.

"You're welcome to join us. I hope you don't mind squeezing in with my sister and I?"
Kyle couldn't believe his luck. He'd taken a random chance and had somehow found himself with a ride straight to Arizona. And not just any ride, but a ride with someone who didn't look like a serial killer.
"That'd be great." Kyle said, offering his hand to Emma. "I'm Kyle. Kyle Electus to be exact."
He looked at the other girl, the one called Veruca. She was a real stunner, beautiful by anybodies standards. Kyle knew that he was considered good looking by most girls he knew, and he'd had his fair share of hook ups in his time with plenty of beautiful women, but this one just seemed intriguing. He shot her his trademark cheeky grin, which had gotten him more than one woman in the past.
There was only one thought going through Kyle's mind - 'Guess destiny really wants me to go to Arizona.'

Emma reached her hand to Kyle and replied, "Emma Roth. Pleased to meet you". Emma turned to the girl and asked, "And you are?".
<***>
"Andreas de Mesa.", Veronica replied.

Tristan furrowed his eyebrows and cocked his head slightly, when he heard what Veronica told him. They're going to Andreas De Mesa too. The same exact place where he and Veruca will be heading.
"That's where we're going too." He mumbled, keeping his eyebrows furrowed.
Something felt odd and Tristan could sense it.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Veruca failed to control her cheeks from blushing when the guy called Kyle grinned at her. He was hot, in a ruggedly handsome- dangerous type of guy. Then she thought of Tristan and that was enough to send her back to reality. Tristan was the equally handsome but snobbish brat type.
Emma asked for her name and she replied, extending her hand for a handshake in the process, "Veruca."

"Are you serious?", Veronica asked; stunned, she jerked back. "What's bringing you there?".

He drummed his fingers on the counter, as he waited for the cashier to finish packing his groceries. He heard Veronica's question, he was trying to think of a lie to tell her.
"Veruca, she wanted to go there." Tristan uttered vaguely, hoping that Veronica would be satisfied with the answer. "Something she has to do or some sort."
He shrugged and flashed her a smile.
"What about you guys?"

Veronica stood by him and waited, replying, "We've got business there ourselves. It's pretty odd that you're headed there too. I mean, it isn't like Phoenix or Tuscon that has people headed there regularly. Interesting...".
