The sixteen wheeler truck was speeding up the interstate too fast, behind it were the white camry and the porsche, running at an equal speed. The driver of the truck, a middle aged drunk man saw his exit to to left. He maneuvered the stirring wheel, with out even slowing down the vehicle first. The dinosaur of a truck roared as it came toppling over to it's side, crashing a few cars in front of it. The sight of flying truck parts and the sound of twisting metals overwhelmed that part of the interstate. It was too late for Tristan to step on the brakes of the porsche. Admittedly, he was falling asleep. They've been driving down the interstate, lagging behind Veronica and Emma's car, to God knows where for hours already. "Shit!" He cursed, as he saw the white camry infront of them collide with the burning monster truck. There was no doubt in Tristan's mind that they were next to join them in the firey inferno. Seconds before the porsche hits, Tristan glanced over to the passenger seat where Veruca was sleeping. He wanted to save her. It was as if everything was in slow motion. He reached both his hands out to Veruca. But as his fingers were about to touch her, something weird happened. Tristan could see himself fading. It started with the tips of his fingers, disintegrating like smoke in the air. It continued with his hands, his arms, until finally, all he could remember was seeing Veruca opening her eyes, shocked to see they were about to crash, screaming and then ... nothing.

Kyle just sat in the back as the two sisters debated whether everything that had happened was a coincidence. While Kyle himself had thought the same, he'd quickly pushed it out of his mind. Kyle didn't care what had brought them together because he knew that nothing, including fate or destiny, was going to push him somewhere he didn't want to go. Kyle was still listening to them going back and forth when he spotted the truck in front of them, tipping onto its side.
"Shit!" Kyle screamed as he spotted the truck, "Hit the brakes!"
He didn't know what it was that led him to do what he did next. Maybe it was sentimental value, or maybe it was some crazy form of instinct deep within his brain, but he felt himself grasp hold of the golden coin hung around his neck. The last keepsake his father had given him.
"All I wanted to do was get to bloody Arizona." Kyle said softly to himself.
And that was when it happened. Suddenly everything went white around him, an intense pain filled his skull. 'This is it' he thought to himself, 'This is what death feels like'. In the back of the car the white light was there for a second, then it vanished, but that wasn't the only thing that had vanished. As Emma and Veronica hurtled towards the overturned van, Kyle had disappeared as well.

"Hit the brakes!"
Kyle's cry was the only thing Veronica heard as the car spun into a complete three hundred sixty degree turn, bumping hard against the car beside them, causing Veronica to knock her head hard across the window; a trail of blood falling from the side of her head.
<***>
For Emma, she too, heard Kyle's cry. She didn't know what it was, but something told her to reach for her pocket watch and flick it on. The world around her stopped for a moment, as the sight of hellfire and carnage froze in a moment. The only thing that came across her head was to turn the car around.
Turning it a complete one eighty, time shifted back to reality for Emma and as it did, another car came crashing before them. Emma switched the watch on again, freezing time once again; giving herself enough time to turn the car around. As time caught back, it was too late for her as the incoming car hit the side of her Toyota Camry, forcing the vehicle to once again face the burning truck.
<***>
Emma began panting, as she looked around frantically. Kyle was nowhere in sight, and Veronica was sitting beside her, unconscious; blood dripping from her side as her head rested against the broken window beside her.
Quickly, Emma freed herself from her seat belt, reached for Veronica and pulled her out. Flicking on the watch again, Emma took Veronica into her arms and pulled her into the side of the highway. As time caught up with her, Emma dropped to the ground, still holding Veronica, as she tried coping with her nausea, crying out, "Kyle! Kyle!".

The thought of dying was the only thing inside Veruca's head that moment. The car was moving closer and closer to the burning orgies of trucks and smashed cars. She was about to join the others. She was still screaming.
In her peripheral, she could tell Tristan was gone. Veruca figured he probably jumped out of the car and saved himself. The car moved closer again towards the flame engulfed truck. Everything seemed to be in slow motion inside his head.
Although she had on the seatbelt, she knew she was going to somehow smash her face into the dashboard, that or the windshield would crack open and impale her, then the porsche's going to explode with her in it. She braced herself. This is it.
When the car collided with the burning vehicle, she could've sworn the sound almost made her ears bled. Eyes closed, she felt her self getting thrown forward. Veruca felt that she was air born.
When she opened her eyes she saw the dark star studded sky, then flames, then metal, then the sky again, then the burning flames, then crushed metal. It was like that for several seconds. She was spinning uncontrollably, like she was launched from a catapult.
Finally she saw dark asphalt. And figured her face was gonna collide with it, but instead she went right through it, down to the bottom of the ground. Then it was darkness...

Veronica coughed out as she slowly awoke. Emma looked down at her with a grateful smile and wrapped her arms around her as she kissed her on the forehead.
"Oh my God... How are you?", Emma asked.
"I'll be better.", Veronica replied as she gazed at the wreck. "Oh, my God.".
Emma noticed as the bleeding slowly ceased and her wound slowly closing. "How is that happening?".
Veronica looked at Emma and held out her arm, revealing the bracelet. "Apparently.", Veronica began. "This thing heals me. Where's Kyle?".
"I don't know.", Emma replied. "I've been calling him for ages. I hope he's fine.".
Veronica looked at the wreck and said, "Our purses, you have to get them?".
"Are you mad?", Emma shot back.
"Look, all the money we have in the world happens to be in there, and if we don't do something now, we are as good as fucked!".
"I can't believe I'm actually hearing this!".
"You have the power to stop time.", Veronica began. "Use it."
Emma looked at her blankly.
"If you don't, then I will.", Veronica shot back.
"Fine.", Emma replied as she rose and turned back to the street.
"If you can, try to see if you can recover our cigarettes.".
Emma turned her head back and said, "You've lost your mind haven't you?".
"We both could use a smoke.", Veronica replied. "Now, go!".
"You're lucky I love you!", Emma said as she hit the watch. Quickly, she made her way through the inferno that stood through time, rushing as she jumped over what were burning bodies and wrecks to twisted metal. She had to press the watch a second time before she could reach her car. Quickly, she riffled for her purse and Veronica's, both of which seemed considerably smoked, before reaching out for the two packs of cigarettes that were closest to her. Pressing the watch one more time, she made a mad run back for Veronica.
Returning to her sister, Emma dropped to her knees and cradled her head as she fought her sudden and maddening urge of nausea.
Veronica quickly rushed to her sister and wrapped her in her arms. "I'm sorry, but we needed it.".
"The money?", Emma asked as she curled herself in Veronica's grasp.
"Yeah.", Veronica replied. "That too.".

Tristan felt peace. It's that same overwhelming serene feeling you get when you stand up on the highest peak of a mountain and let the cool fresh air blow your face and inhaling the almost sweet smell of the pine trees below. It was just like that for Tristan.
Then slowly, he realized he was hovering, although he couldn't feel his legs, nor his arms. There was nothing. He could see the burning pile of smashed cars and the sixteen wheeler truck at the interstate.
"Veruca." He thought of her immediately.
Slowly he felt himself descending, he was at the side of the interstate. He caught his reflection on a piece of wind shield on the ground, probably from one of the burning cars, and was in complete disbelief of what he was seeing. His was starting to take shape. It's like he was engulfed in smoke and it's slowly piecing together, forming his arms, his legs, his torso and then finally his head.
"What the..." Tristan uttered under his breath, astounded.
Trails of smoke were still lingering on his body and clothes when he remembered Veruca again. He wanted to run to the burning cars and search for her. He was worried. He hated himself for not being able to save her.
Not far from where Tristan is, below the ground. Veruca was surrounded in complete darkness. It was getting harder for her to breathe, wherever she is, so she decided to raise her hands up and found vines or some sort. She held on to them and crawled the way back up, using them as ladders.
Her head popped out of the asphalt road first, them utilized both her hands to pull herself up. Like she was getting out of the pool. Finally she was out and crashed on the ground, coughing. Everything that happened just now didn't make sense and Veruca figured she's got time to think about it later, but now, she needed to find the others and see if they're alright.
"Tristan!" Veruca screamed on top of her lungs, as she staggered to get up. "Emma! Veronica! Kyle!"

Veronica heard Veruca call out their name. Looking up as she held Emma, Veronica raised her hand and shouted back, "Veruca, we're over here on the side of the road!".

Tristan stood there, at the side of the road, watching the flames, with a crestfallen expression on his beautiful face. He thought about Veruca and how it was impossible for her to survive the accident. He was nothing but rude to her since they left Grayling. He thought she was irritating. But now, she's gone.
Tristan raked his brownish blond hair frustrated. He hated himself now.
Suddenly heard a familiar voice screaming his name and the others. Then he heard Emma's voice calling back.
"Veruca!" Tristan yelled running towards the voice. The place was covered with smoke and it was almost impossible for him to see, but he moved forward anyway.
At the other side of the road he saw her, bent over, coughing, trying to find her way through the smoke.
"Tristan?" She asked, eyes squinted at him.
What happened next was something even Veruca didn't expect. Tristan, her creature of the light, stepped forward and hugged her. He buried her face on his chest and wrapped his arms around her. Veruca could've sworn she heard a choir of angels sing that moment. She felt so small, so little, so fragile, but safe, in his tight embrace.
Still in shock, not because of the accident, but because of the hug, she let her arms fall to her side like a doll. She was basking in the moment. Veruca could hear Tristan's heart beating against his chest. She felt his lips pressing at the top of his head.

The light faded around Kyle although unfortunately the pain coursing through his brain did not. Kyle grasped his head, wondering what the hell just happened. He had seen the truck and then... then nothing. Was he dead? Kyle looked around, taking in his new surroundings. It looked like a town, people walked around like normal. This certainly didn't seem like any hell Kyle had ever read about. The pain in his head slowly started to fade, and he stopped two men who were talking past him.
"Excuse me sir," Kyle asked, still confused. "Am I alive?"
The two men looked at each other, obviously amused at his question. They clearly thought he was drunk or stoned or something to that effect.
"Well of course your alive son," one of the men answered him, still looking at him as if he was completely mental. "Why else would you be in our town."
"And where exactly is this?" Kyle replied, the pain in his head still lingering.
"Your in Arizona kid, Andreas de Mesa to be precise. And kid," the man paused, clearly concerned about something. "Your nose is bleeding pretty bad."
Kyle moved his hand up to his nose, wiping it with his wrist. He looked at it to find it covered in blood. This was certainly not the way he planned to get to Arizona.

"Come on.", Veronica said as she hoisted Emma up. "We're getting out of here.".
In the distance, Veronica watched as Tristan cradled Veruca up in his arms. "Tristan!.", Veronica yelled out following a whistle. "We're over here!".

Analora had been riding by on her motorcycle when she noticed that a young man had all of a sudden appeared on the sidewalk. "dear christ" she gasped, quickly parking her bike and removing the key. She tore off her helmet and quickly made her way to him. "Hey, you alright?" she asked stopping in front of the young man, offering him some tissues from her messenger bag.

Both Tristan and Veruca were dragged back to reality when they heard Emma. He could still feel the temple of head throbbing. It started right after he reappeared at the side of the road a few minutes ago.
He broke his embrace from Veruca and dragged her towards Emma and Veronica.
"Hurry." Tristan prodded Veruca to walk faster.
There were so many questions they wanted to ask each other. But they both figured it'd have to wait for now.
"Are you guys ok?" Tristan asked the sisters when they reached them.

"We're fine.", Veronica replied as she approached Tristan and Veruca, still clutching on to Emma. "How are you two?".
Emma looked around, still somewhat out of it from her nausea, and asked, "Where's Kyle?".

"We're ok." Tristan answered for both of them.
Tristan released Veruca's arm finally, and looked around the place.
"I was going to ask you the same question." He said, his thick dark eyebrows slightly furrowed. "Isn't he with you?"
Veruca stood there also scanned the area, eyes wandering, searching for any signs of Kyle. To her utter disappointment, he was nowhere in sight.
"How did you manage to escape?" Tristan inquired, casually, fanning the smoke away from his face with his hand.

Emma, still leaning on Veronica replied, "Before we knew it he was gone.".
"How did you manage to escape?"
Emma and Veronica looked at each other for a moment before answering. They seemed harmless enough. Emma shrugged and gave Veronica a look that had 'your call' written all over it. Veronica nodded in kind before looking at Kyle and replying, "First tell us why you're going to Andreas de Mesa, of all places, and then, we'll you everything.".
